Historical Sites and Tours

Of course almost any site you go to in Charleston will have its historical story. But seriously what Charleston does well is tell its story. We have many homes, museums, and places that will take you back to a different time and help you appreciate many of our modern comforts. Some of these are free and make great dates. As always take the bug spray.
  • ANGLE OAK TREE - 500 YEAR OLD OAK TREE on John's Island off of Main Rd.
  • MEPKIN ABBEY - Monck's Corner - Live Creche at Christmas time
  • OLD SHELDON CHURCH - A shell of an old Catholic Church past Ravenel off of 17. Beautiful photography site.
  • RAINBOW ROW - Downtown Charleston near the Battery.
  • PATRIOTS POINT - Where the Yorktown is housed. Great Military History
  • BULLS ISLAND - Awendaw. Available only by boat. Primitive
  • CHARLESTOWN LANDING - Celebrates the landing site of the first ship to the harbor.
  • Archaelogical dig site and primitive zoo, flowers in season.
  • CHARLESTON MUSEUM - Meeting Street.
  • CHARLESTON GRAVEYARDS/ WALKING TOUR - downtown
  • CHARLESTON HORSE & BUGGY RIDES - downtown. Great history lessons. And yes they take care of the horses by rotating them in from the heat.
  • BATTERY - White Point Gardens Park - Several monuments to the various wars.
  • FORT SUMTER - Where the Civil War Began. In the Harbor about a mile from the battery
  • FORT MOULTRIE - In Mt. Pleasant to the left as you stand on the battery.
  • FORT DORCHESTER - Summerville - First town of trade away from Charleston
  • FORT JOHNSON- to the right as you stand on the battery. On James Island

  • CALHOUN MANSION - downtown.
  • CHARLESTON HARBOUR TOUR - at the Aquarium wharf
  • FT. SUMTER HARBOUR TOUR - at the Aquarium wharf
  • THE TOWN OF 96 NATIONAL MONUMENT - REV. WAR- near Abbeyville SC
  • THE HUNLEY - One of the first submarines that they recovered from the Charleston Harbor. It was used in the Civil War.
  • WAX MUSEUM ON BROAD
